Please wait…Learning shoots up in text2teach
A recent study revealed that ELSA's text2teach technology, implemented in 122 schools in Mindanao, resulted in higher learning gains in English, Math and Science among the pupils exposed to the technology.
This was the outcome of the summative evaluation report on ELSA's text2teach program, which was conducted by the University of the Philippines, and presented in SEAMEO INNOTECH last May 18, 2007. About 2,855 grades 5 and 6 pupils from over 23 schools in Cotabato, South Cotabato, and Maguindanao participated in the said study.
Pre-tests and post-tests were administered in both control and study groups of participants. Students exposed to text2teach registered higher post-test scores and learning gains than those who were not exposed to text2teach. Dramatic learning gains were observed especially in Science and English, wherein learning gains went up to more than 20 points.
"Learning shoots up in text2teach," said Dr. Josefina Natividad of the UP Demographic Research and Development Foundation. "Based on the evaluation study, it further boosts learning gains among pupils, and in poor learning environment, can spell the difference between some learning and no learning at all." The research recommendation was to expand the reach of the text2teach among other areas of Mindanao.
ELSA's award-winning text2teach technology, implemented through SEAMEO INNOTECH, aims to provide quality education by providing educational videos and audio-visual modules to the underprivileged youth. To date, there are 122 text2teach schools in Mindanao, serving over 35,000 students, 720 teachers, and has reached at least 8,000 learners from the non-formal education programs in the ARMM.
