Glan, Sarangani Province- As recipients of a new 3- classroom school building, the students of Hadji Musa Elementary school have something to smile about. The newly constructed and fully furnished classrooms were formally turned over to local officials and community residents of Glan, last November 19, 2007.
The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) through its' Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS) program co-funded the construction of the school building with matching funds from Petron Foundation Inc and Petron Corporation.
To highlight the strong partnership in support to public education, Sarangani Governor Miguel Rene Dominguez, members and representatives of the Hadji Musa Elementary School-Parents, Teachers and Community Association (PTCA), were also present in the event. " Now that we have planted the seeds of opportunity for the children of Hadji Musa. We see the importance of engaging the community to ensure that the seeds will bear fruits," Dominguez said.
The strong multi-sectoral partnership played a key role in the success of the initiative. Chairman and CEO of Petron Corp. Nicasio Alcantara said in his speech, "It takes a village to raise a child and we hope to inspire everyone in the community to improve the quality of education." To show their appreciation, Petron scholars from Pangayan Elemtary School also performed during the event.
Petron Foundation Inc., through ELSA, provides access to quality education through interventions such as classroom building, implementation of reading program and providing grant scholarships in Mindanao.
