Taking another step towards servant leadership: ELSA youth leaders train in project management

Twenty-eight alumni of the 3rd ELSA Young Leaders Camp (EYLC) honed their capability to lead and implement development projects by attending a project management training last June 25-29, 2007. Held in Iligan City, the training aimed to inculcate the values of youth participation, leadership, and innovating developmental projects for their schools and communities.

Topics discussed include project management and planning, budgeting, mobilizing resources, and writing project proposals. Two alumni from the 1st EYLC, Mohammad Mon-em Abangad and Rogelio Ocsio, Jr., related their experience in handling community projects and shared the impact of their collective effort and initiative.

They also encouraged their fellow leaders to passionately pursue their projects so that they can make a difference in their schools and communities.

Teachers and some school representatives also joined the project management training to attend a session called Mentoring Young People, so that they can ably guide the young leaders as they lead in implementing their projects.

ELSA’s In-School Youth Engagement Program, spearheaded by Ayala Foundation, develops the leadership potential of the youth in Mindanao. It empowers the young leaders through leadership camps, project management trainings, learning sessions and interfaith dialogues for them to be able to reach out to their schools and communities. The next PMTs for the other batches of EYLC alumni are scheduled on July 9-16 and July 16-20, 2007.
