Cotabato City- Twenty- five prospective facilitators joined the Education and Livelihood Skills Alliance’s Youth Civic Engagement Program Trainer’s Training in St. Joseph’s Retreat House, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Shariff Kabunsuan last May 4- 9, 2008.
Community organizers and Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC) Alumnae were trained to be effective facilitators in the upcoming ELSA Youth Leadership Camp (EYLC) series under EQuALLS2. The five- day training program aimed to imbibe the value of servant leadership and equip the participants with facilitating skills through experiencing the EYLC activities first hand.
“As servant leaders, the challenge is for them to be able work on the vision they have for their respective communities,” says Monchito Mossesgeld, Ayala Young Leaders Congress Director.
The EYLC camp series serves as the springboard activity that instills the youth participants with skills on self-awareness, trust, cooperation, collaboration, problem solving and concern for the community.
“We hope that the participants come out of the training fueled with a renewed passion to serve their communities, especially the youth who will be joining the various activities led by ELSA” says Ireneo Demecais Jr., Development Associate for the ELSA’s Youth Civic Engagement program.
ELSA’s Youth Civic Engagement Program, spearheaded by Ayala Foundation aims to create opportunities for the youth community leaders in Mindanao to actively involve themselves in addressing their community’s educational needs. The EYLC camp series is expected to commence on July and August of 2008.
